Young Compete with Older and Established Pros
Posted by admin under Poker News
With the development of Internet gambling, both new and professional poker gamblers received the opportunity to practice at the online casinos throughout the year. But it has been noted that young poker players using online gambling sites are able to learn to play games faster, and they give the older and established pros a run for their money. The results of the recent Asian Poker Tour main event are a proof to that.
The well-known poker players such as Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson and others took part in the final table of the main event of the APT, as well as a young, 20-year old U.S. player – Yevgeniy Timoshenko. And he was the one who took the first prize – $500,000.
With a sizeable name in the industry made during the APT, Timoshenko will be able to go on honing his skills and compete against the high profile land and online casino poker gamblers.

1,000,000 euro was dished out to the most skilled players during the last leg of the Grosvenor UK poker Tour held in the Luton Grosvenor Casino.
The final three players were James Mitchell, Sam Pickett and Dave LaRonde. The remaining prize money was split three ways for 60,000 euro each and the winner receiving 35,000 euro.
Mitchell left third, LaRonde left second, and Pickett became a winner having won 106,050 euro; a seat in the GUKPT Grand Final and a Tutima watch.
LaRonde dominated the three-way match, and Mitchell became the first casualty, pushing in with 7-3o and receiving a call from Pickett’s 66. Heads-up was a short affair, with LaRonde getting it in as a 3-1 underdog; his A-7 dominated by Pickett’s A-Q. The flop bought both an Ace and a Queen and LaRonde was officially drawing dead.

Lesson for All
Posted by admin under Poker News
As many remember, Scotty Nguyen lost his composure with finalist Michael DeMichele and Erik Lindgren and spouted off many a drunken curse. It must be admitted the Nguyen’s behavior was surprising and nobody expected it.
Nevertheless, Nguyen made a public apology by sending it across the World Wide Web via his personal email account.
In his apology Nguyen pleads his fans to understand that he is only a human and he doesn’t justify his actions.
What really happened is that Nguyen was really disappointed with his loss at the 2007 WSOP main event. And this year’s event was of great importance for him. There was too much pressure. The things didn’t go his way. He was frustrated and let the steam off.

Internet Gambling Society Demands Information
Posted by admin under Poker News
The internet poker gambling market remembers very well last year’s cheating scandal in which Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet were involved by their former employees. The scandal turned out to be the largest in the history of internet poker gambling industry and naturally cost some credibility and some of their established internet poker gambling network.
Both cases were investigated, fined and closed. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission and Tokwiro Enterprises released a statement, but it seemed to be watered down and didn’t contain any details.
There are rumors that some people involved in the scandal are living out of the country and thus out of the jurisdiction of the Canadian government. E.g. Allan Grimard, the former low-level supervisor at Absolute Poker, is rumored to be living a very wealthy life in Costa Rica, the lifestyle he couldn’t achieve with his former earnings. However, there is no proof that Grimard was involved in the scandal.
With all the companies and regulator boards refusing to release any information about the results of the investigation or the identities of the employees, the anger of the online casino players from all over the world demanding more information is growing. And it is not clear what should the next step in resolving the situation.
No wonder, the online casinos are now having hard times. Both Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet are trying to distance themselves from last year’s scandal. They may even merge into one company and get a new name, Cereus.

WSOP 2008 Breaks Records
Posted by admin under Poker News
The 2008 World Series of Poker owned by Harrah’s Entertainment is reported to be the largest and richest of its tournament’s 39 years. A record 58,720 entries were taken for the 55-event, 47-day poker tournament. The total prize pool was also a record and amounted to $180.7 million.
Eight different $10,000 buy-in events and eight different $1,500 buy-in events have also helped to the tournament field.
Players from 118 countries have managed to take part in the tournament, and they are believed to have found something for every of them.
It is not known how many participants won their seat to the WSOP 2008 in an online poker tournament because Harrah’s does not accept entry fees paid by third parties. A player must present his or her own entry to play in an event.
“We’ve accomplished what we set out to do, and we’re not taking anything for granted,” said Jeffrey Pollack, a Harrah’s vice president who serves as commissioner of the World Series of Poker. “We’re going to be even better in 2009.”
