Harrah’s Tries to Make WSOP a More Eco-Friendly Event

Posted by admin under Poker News

Continuously looking for the ways to help conserve energy and demonstrate the commitment to environmental sustainability, Harrah’s Operating Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. collaborated with Native Energy, an international marketer of high quality carbon offsets, at the WSOP, and purchased carbon offsets to mitigate the impact from energy use and waste during its event at the Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino. The option of offsetting the carbon emissions from air and ground travel to and from Las Vegas, and their hotel stays offered by Haarah’s will be available for players in the WSOP Ante Up For Africa charity and celbrity tournament event and the WSOP Main Event.

The purchase of carbon offsets at the WSOP will support Native Energy’s farmer-owned distributed wind program aimed at helping farmers reduce their global impact from energy use and reduce their long-term electricity costs.

The Williamson family farm turbine is an example of the type of project that the WSOP carbon offsets will help support. Its 35 kilowatt wind turbine began generating renewable energy in the spring of 2007.

Carbon offsets (packages include an eco-friendly souvenir) are available for purchase at Harrah’s booth off the main floor of the WSOP tournament area directly from Native Energy. The offer of carbon offsets depends on the average estimated travel distance and hotel stay.

“…The collaboration with Native Energy allows Harrah’s to provide their guests the opportunity to participate in effective solutions to the climate crisis that can be implemented today,” says Tom Boucher, President and CEO of Native Energy.

Never to Win A WSOP Bracelet? Benyamine Proves the Opposite

Posted by admin under Poker News

David Benyamine has long been known as one of the world’s best high-stakes cash games players, at the same time he’s had the reputation of being one of the greatest players never to win a WSOP bracelet.

Everything changed on June 21, when he got the “world champion” title playing in Omaha High-Low Split World Championship. The tournament’s overall prize pool was $2,209,000, while David’s winning totaled to $535,678.

Six players took part in the final table – David Benyamine, Mike Matusow, Ram Vaswani, David Chiu, Tony Ma, Berry Johnston, Toto Leonidas. Benyamine, Greg Jamison and Jason Gray were the final three at the table. The final lasted 10 hours, while the head up match between Benyamine and Jamison was over in 75 minutes.

To let you know, David was one of the top-ranked French tennis players in the world before a back injury ended his career. Benyamine turned to billiard and became one of the top players in France. Then, he moved on to professional poker. His biggest win, prior to this weekend, came in 2003 when he won the Grand Prix de Paris, a victory that earned him $411,000.

Speaking about the 2008 WSOP, this year, despite a great number of professional players who won the events, there were a lot of players who had never won a WSOP bracelet before this year. 33 of the first 38 winners are “first timers.” The list includes: Nenad Medic, Grant Hinkle, David Singer, Erick Lindgren, Michael Banducci, Thang Luu, Matt Keikoan, Anthony Rivera, Ralph Porter, Farzad Rouhani, Phillip Tom, Jimmy Shultz, Duncan Bell, Eric Brooks, Svetlana Gromenkova, Andrew Brown, Jason Young , Vanessa Selbst, Scott Seiver, Jens Voertmann, Blair Hinkle, Kenny Tran, Vitaly Lunkin, Philip Galfond, John (Razor) Phan, Rob Hollink, Dario Minieri, Luis Velador, Michael Rocco, Jesper Hougaard, Benyamine and Davidi Kitai.

iPhone Winners will Finish Caribbean Hold’em Promotion

Posted by admin under Poker News

After the promotion for real money players in North America opened by online casino BodogLife.com five lucky players have been announced to have won iPhones fromApple. They are supposed to finish Caribbean Hold’em promotion. The promotion also included weekly random cash draws to those hitting correct “live” hands.

‘Whitley B’ and ‘Chuck B’ from North Carolina alongside ‘David Y’ from Hawaii and ‘Bonnie F’ from Wisconsin are reported to have been among the winners of 14 iPhones.

In Caribbean Hold’em poker players compete against the dealer rather than other players.  Caribbean Hold’em poker sees “the dealer dealt two cards face down while players are dealt two showing cards. Three community cards, known as ‘the flop’, are then dealt face up with players then deciding if their five-card hand is good enough to beat that held by the dealer.

Players may call or fold at this stage but a call triggers two more community cards to be dealt face-up to bring the total number of community cards to five. Both competitors may use any of the community cards along with their hole cards to make the best five-card hand.”

The World Poker Tour has been a very good partner, and the show is doing greatly on the network attracting higher-aged audience. The Network and the World Poker Tour Enterprise are continuing discussing regarding possibilities of their work together, including the probable broadcasting parts of Season VII. Even taking into consideration this fact, the Network might not get the exclusive rights to World Poker Tour.
